There's always something so sad about seeing the brown grass and baren fields
and of course the empty Budlime tree.

Yes Deb, but all that hard work and putting everything to good use and storing for the famine of winter is always a cheering thought.

Winter has arrived. In a month you won't be able to see the tomato cages as they will be under the snow.
I think its about time to put my tiller in the shed until next spring.

You'll be heading down to our neck of the woods soon, Ray. No such thing as "snow" here, unless its on a Christmas card.

It snowed in Orlando when I went through bootcamp and it was funny watching them deal with it!

I went through boot camp in South Carolina during the months of January and February. There they would get a dusting of snow now and then but we had mostly rain.

Mom always said that you couldn't start using the canned food until you had a snow.Well I'm legal. One of the coldest days I ever spent was Christmas Eve 1983 in Mims Fla. it was 19 degrees and spitting snow.We had one kerosene heater in a two story 4 bedroom house so we gathered around it with blankets and a bottle of Scotch.

Enough is enough. We have had more snow here than in years. There never has been that much at a time but it just keeps snowing.Last week it got up into the 40's for a few days and all most of the snow melted, but noooo a day later we got 4 more inches.I'm ready to see something green other than the pine trees.I took a trip yesterday to Huntington WV to sigh the book at their union hall.On the way back I took the scenic route along the Ohio River and saw a bunch of trees full of nice green mistletoe.I had never been through there in the winter when the trees were all bear so Id never saw it before.

I hear ya David. Same here. We got another 6 inches yesterday. Luckily light I shoveled in in 30 minutes in a t-shirt it was a nice warm 34 degrees. It would have frozen solid. my neigbors were chopping it today. I shoveled at 9:30pm.

I love those live oaks Harper,I remember them from FL.They are the ones with the long horizontal limbs right. They make a beautiful setting for a home, several people I knew there lived among groves of them. They seemed to make a place look real homey. Here the animals are having a hard time with no nut crop last summer. This morning I saw a flock of 50 turkey, when the group together like it means there's no food for them to find. The deer are eating peoples shrubs right at their front doors.Ive been keeping my ducks and chickens as well as the wild birds fed well.

I know that sounds like alot... But it will taper down when spring sets in... Remember I depend on the game on my lease for meat too... The corn is very cheap for me to buy...
