Silver River

Silver River, which flows through the park into the Ocklawaha River. The park is home to
a pioneer “cracker” village and the Silver River Museum and Environmental Education
Center. The center is operated by the Marion County School District in cooperation with
the park and is open to the public on weekends and holidays, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Visitors can canoe down the crystal clear river or hike along one of the nature trails.
The picnic area features pavilions that may be rented for group outings. Regular ranger
programs and special events are posted on the park’s website. For overnight stays, the
park has a full-facility campground and cabins. Located east of Ocala, one mile south
of State Road 40 on State Road 35.

Hey there Rusty. Smiley   We are just waiting for someone to reserve a site so we all have a deffinite place to congregate and setup our smoker and equipment.  Paul's (Ozark) computers are out of commission so we haven't heard much from him lately.  We do know that everything is a go and he has flight reservations.  He has had a bit of personal bad luck recently, aside from the computer problems.

Yesterday Rocky and I went to the camp ground (Silver River) located near Silver Springs park in Florida. It was an hour and half ride for us one way.

Since no one has reserved a spot there yet, we are without a place to meet. We were told that a reservation must be made NOW if anyone wants to reserve for any time in January.

We checked out the cabins which are huge. There are 10 cabins. No tents are permitted to be erected on the cabin sites.  The requirement for reserving a cabin is a minimum of 2 nights during weekends and holidays. (No “one-night” stands.) Six people to a cabin is maximum.  Also, no pets are permitted in the cabins.  No smoking are permitted inside the cabins, however, they do allow smoking on the screened-in wrap-around porches. Check in is at 4 p.m. and check out is at 11 a.m. Cabins are $110.00 per night, plus tax.

It is $6.00 per car load to enter the park.  Park hours for visitors are from 8 a.m. until dusk, if you are not a registered guest. In January, dusk comes very early.

The campsites are also very nice. There are 59 campsites. We didn’t like the fact that they are so far from the cabin area. BTW, pets are permitted in the camping area as long as they are on a leash. Check in is at 3 p.m. and out at 1 p.m. Campsites are $24.00 per night.

We think this is a great park but that it is not suited for the close knit group that we are.

We would appreciate it if someone else picks up the ball and keeps updating this thread. This was Paul’s (Ozarks) baby and now he has disappeared off the face of the Earth. We realize that he has some troubles right now, but he needs to post in this thread so folks that are planning to attend know whether this event is a go or not.

Again, we would appreciate it if someone else would pick up the ball and keep this thread up-dated.

That mapquest shows us too far down the street.  We are the third mobile home on the right of the entrance to the park on Hightower lane. First is the office, then neighbors from NY, then us.

THE MEET IS STILL ON-SEE THE FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD FOR INFORMATION

Rocky and i are  going to have a fully cooked ham ready to just  be lightly smoked for  lunch saturday. We will also have a  brisket going for supper/dinner.  it is only a one day event  but we will be here friday sat and sunday if any one cares to hang around.

The ham idea is because  Buzz fed us  ham at  De gray and it was dynamite.
