Hi everyone,

Do you remember the lodges cast iron grill grates that can be used on either side?

How do I clean mine that rusted through out the winter months?

I've found it out doors, and I like to use it again on Lucille this summer.

It's highly rusted, not rusted out.

Thanks Derek.

When cast iron gets badly rusted I either scrub it with a wire brush then fine sand or 000 steel wool not the soap kind the wood working kind. and wera think gloves it will get in your fingers.

That sand they sell for kiddie sand boxes or swimming pool filters is great for scrubbing cast iron. If you are near a beach that kind will work too but I imagine for a grate a wire brush would be better.

Maybe those wire brushes they sell to go on a drill would be easier than doing it by hand but be careful it doesn't go out of control on you and you hurt your self.

Thank you Mom, Ben Lang gave me a wire brush for my grill grates on Lucile. So I will do a little more research.

Yes, you can sandblast it... I use a wirewheel on my side grinder to clean the rust from mine when I get my hands on some... Then you have to season it...

Using a sand blaster is great if you got one.

We used to have a nice glass beader in my old shop but it's gone now. That thing was great for home projects!
